Got questions?

Fortunately we do have answers

Jumping from an airplane is something incredibly special. It is therefore very normal to have questions. Luckily, most questions have already been asked and answered.

On this page, we have listed the most frequently asked questions for you. The questions have been categorised by topic. If you do not immediately see your question listed under the topic you would expect it; check if the question has not been answered elsewhere.

If you still have questions after reading this page, call us during office hours on +31 (0)222 311464.

General

This is always a very difficult question. Predicting the weather exactly is simply not yet very well possible. Especially if we look further than a few days ahead.

Luckily, we usually have quite a good idea of what we can generally expect. For this, we use the same information sources as people who do not fly and/or jump. See the links below to check the websites yourself.

When you call us to ask what the weather will be like, we will look at these websites.

Because we are located on an island, the weather is often extra difficult to predict. On the Wadden islands, weather can change very quickly, which makes it extra hard to predict.

One day in advance, at the end of the afternoon, we can have a reasonably good indication of whether we will be jumping the next day. But we are only sure right before boarding the aircraft.

Windfinder.com Buienradar.nl Yr.no

In short:

  • too much wind
  • precipitation
  • thick cloud layer too close too ground

Limitations for a tandemjump are more lenient than for the jumps made by students in a parachuting course.

If you're in doubt whether your jump can proceed call us the day before in the late afternoon. At that time we'll have the best / most accurate possible answer for you.

There's not really a best time of year to jump as every jump is an unforgettable experience and every jump is different.

You can jump on a day with clear skies and high temperatures but also on a day that's very cold with snow covering the Island. It's down to personal preference what you'll enjoy more.

If your weight including clothing and shoes is over 100kg (but no more than 115kg) you maybe able to do a tandem skydive with us.

It's not a given though that we can stretch the weight limit for you though, there's a few factors involved that have to be just right:

  • The windconditions have to be optimal. Not too strong, not too soft and from a certain range in winddirection.
  • The jumper needs to have enough muscle in their upper legs. For jumpers with big upper legs and little muscle mass it can be quite painful to be suspended in the harness.
  • The jumper should be able to lift their legs for 10 seconds to an angle approaching 90 degrees. This is necessary during the landing.
  • On the jump day there needs to be an instructor who is willing and able to jump with additional weight load.

If you think you meet the criteria stated above you can probably still experience the tandem skydive. But please be aware that there's a fair chance that you won't be able to jump, for instance if the weather conditions aren't suitable.

Definitely, but there's a disclaimer. When we're in the airplane flying to altitude your instructor will fit you with special jump goggles. If you wear contact lenses (no difference between soft and hard lenses) they practically always stay in place.

If you wear glasses we'll provide you with oversized jump goggles that fit over your glasses. It's possible though that these goggles come off in freefall. It's extremely unlikely but it's happened before. If that were to happen on your jump the jump will still be safe but you'll likely lose your glasses/ contacts.

So it's at your own risk but the risk is extremely small.

A fear of heights is often listed as the reason not to jump. Fortunately that's not how this condition works!

As the airplane climbs so quickly you'll quickly be above the threshold altitude where your brain can register the changed perspective and translate that to a sense of altitude. Especially since you'll no longer be standing an a ground-connected structure.

There's a lot of examples of professional skydivers that suffer from fear or heights and still jump on a daily basis.

No you won't, not if you plan to do a tandem skydive. You will need one when you plan to do a course to learn to jump solo.

No, the statistics are definitely on your side. Driving your car to the airport is a multitude more dangerous. But keep in mind, although the changes of you hurting yourself are extremely small, skydiving is still an extreme sport with inherent risks.

Yes Paracentrum Texel is a member of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Luchtvaart (KNVvL) organisation as well as the USPA.

All our instructors are certified under the strict KNVvL regulations.

Sure, you dog is very welcome as well. We have water drinking trays available on hot days.

There's a few house rules:

  • The dog must be leashed at all times
  • An adult must always supervise (the leash should be held at all times)
  • Any mishaps are your to cleanup

Bookings / Reservations

Yes, of course. Our 'flighttickets' are not personalized, which means you can also organize a surprise for someone and still be able to make a booking/ reservation beforehand.

This means you can also transfer a jump you booked for yourself, to someone else. Even if you signed your own liability release waiver already, just come to the reception. There the 'new' jumper will have the chance to sign his/ her liability release waiver.

If you have made an online reservation you will receive a statement of payment/ receipt and a booking confirmation including the most important information within a few minutes via e-mail.

You have 2 options:

  1. By clicking the link in your confirmation e-mail and follow the instructions thereafter.
  2. You give us a call and we will change the date of your booking manually in our system for you.

That is no issue at all. You may change the date of the booking as often as you want. Nonetheless, a booked jump is valid for 2 years, so make sure you are not procrastinating too long.

What a pity! There must have been a reason why you have booked an experience that will stick to you the rest of your life, right? Of course we understand, sometimes there are reasons why you cannot and/ or should not jump anymore.

If the location is an issue, we are happy to change the bookings location to Zeeland or Ameland, which are two other locations of ours.

The reservation can also be changed in a sightseeing flight over Texel.

You also may transfer your jump to someone else. You booked it on your name, but the booking is not independent on that. So you may give it away or sell it. To make sure that there is no issue on the day of the jump, please let us know the new personal data of the new jumper in advance.

This waiver is a short, legal agreement that the jumper understands the risks of parachute jumping and that he agrees to take all the risk on himself. Without a liability release waiver we cannot let anyone jump.

Parachuting is very much depending on the weather. It is often decided on the same day, if it is possible to jump or not.

This means that all days we are ready to make your experience happen. So, airplanes, parachutes, pilotes, (tandem-)instructors and all groundstaff is anytime ready to start-up.

To ensure that we can handle the busy days with the right amount of people, it helps us a lot to have a rough idea of what to expect beforehand. Furthermore, the reservation has also 2 advantages for your: You'll receive a online-reservation discount and you always have priority before non-reserved jumpers.

This way we can make a efficient planning for all our staff and also make sure that you can jump on a date that suits you, too.

Giftcards

You will get the giftcard via e-mail. If you want you can then print it.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. We do not send any physical giftcards anymore.

On the giftcard you will find a voucher-number. When you make a online reservation fill in this code, which automatically adjusts the payment

A giftcard has the same validity as a tandemjump, which is two years from the day of purchase.

Of course this is possible. There are two options how you can add photo and video to your tandemjump:

  1. Buying a single giftcard only for a photo/ video package.
  2. To add it on the day of your jump at our reception. However, then you will not receive the online-reservation discount.

Of course! This happens very often and we are happy to help in this case.

What a pity! You received an amazing chance to experience something that you will keep in your mind for the rest of your life. Nonetheless, we understand that there are sometimes reasons why you cannot or should not jump anymore.

This is unfortunate. Please give us a call and we will see what we can do for you in this case.

Medical

Technically yes. But we'd really rather not take you skydiving.

Tandem sprong

There's no strict legal age limitation for doing a Tandem Skydive. We do adhere to the following to determine of we can jump with someone:Minimum age requirements:
  • Does the jumper physically fit a (children) harness ?
  • Does the jumper fully understand what a Tandemskydive is?
  • Does the jumper really want to jump?
  • Is a parent or legal guardian available to sign the Legal Waiver for Minors?
Maximum age requirements:
  • Can the jumper lift his/her legs sufficiently to execute a safe landing?
  • Is the jumpers physique sturdy enough (read: not too fragile) to make the jump?
As a general rule of thumb you can assume that in order to be able to jump you'll have to be at least six years old and not require a 'walker' to move around by yourself. Tandem skydive liability release (waiver)
No, you do not need any completed courses or any kind of skydive experience to be able to jump in a Tandemskydive (this is only needed for AFF or a FJC). Nonetheless, you will get short instructions right before the jump. This will:
  1. prepare you, so that you know what will happen and what to expect
  2. add to your own experience, so that you fully understand what you need to do during flight and jump.
The instructions are simple, easy to remember and take about 10 minutes of your time just before your Tandemjump.
If you are 18 or older: absolutely nothing (to increase the fun-factor family and friends are always welcome). If you are under 18 you need to be accompanied by your parents (at least one parent or a legal guardian). Your parents need to officially approve to your Tandem parachute jump and need to sign your "reliability release waiver", before getting into the airplane.
You will exit the airplane at a height of 9000 feet, which is approximately 3 km above the ground.
Tandem passengers can leave their personal belongings and valuables in lockers on the dropzone. You can lock them with your personal numeric code, with which you can also open it again. So no worries, your belongings are absolutely safe, while you get your adrenaline-shot.
Yes, you will be able to breath during free falling. Some people may experience it as "harder" to breath, but this is usually due to the adrenaline felt in the moment.

The temperature is decreasing around 2 degrees per 1000 feet when climbing. This means that the temperature at exit height will be 15 to 20°C colder then on the ground.

The temperature difference can only be really felt once the door opens. However, the door only opens right before exiting, which means that you will be busy with completely other thoughts and not pay much attention to the temperature around you.
While free falling you will excellerate to around 180km/h.

If you want to know more about the science behind Skydiving this video will help you understand what exactly will happen during a Skydive.
The time is dependent on you exit height. This means, you will be able to enjoy a free fall of around 30 seconds, when exiting the airplane from 9000 feet. This will nearly double to 60 seconds, if you choose to exit from 13000 feet.
No, you are not pulled upwards. Videos may give the impression that the Tamdenjumpers are pulled up, however, this is due to the fact that the cameraman keeps falling, during the opening of the tandem.
So from the perspective of the camera, the tandemskydivers leave the frame upwards. Yet, the tandem is now only descending with a speed of 15km/h, while the cameraman is still falling with 180km/h.
You will be flying under the parachute around 4-5 minutes.
Of course! The Tandemmaster will help and instruct you, but for the rest (if you want) you will be in control of the parachute.
The parachute will be slowed down (flare), which will ensure a soft and controlled landing.

Before a skydiver can participate in a training to become a tandem master, he/ she needs to have a minimum experience of 1000 (!) jumps.
Most tandem masters have followed previous instructor courses, e.g. Help Instructor (HI), Flying Coach and cameramen, which are all demanding trainings, where a lot of jumping experience is needed. Only after that the instructors may follow a tandem master course.

A tandem master at Paracentrum Texel has between 5.000 to 20.000 jumps on his/ her record.
All clothes in which you can freely move are suitable. Dresses and skirts may be a little inconvenient, since you will receive a jumpoverall (jumpsuit), which you will put on over your clothes.
This rule of thumb is also applicable for your shoes. All shoes in which you can comfortable move in are suitable to jump with. Highheels and sandals are not really suitable and may put you at risk when landing.

Therefore, sporty, flat shoes are the best choice.

Photo / Video package

When you book the optional photo/ video package with your tandem jump an additional cameraman/-woman will be jumping together with you and your tandam master out of the airplane.

During your jump the camerajumper will be making a full video and photos of your exceptional experience, also during the free fall. Hence, your Tandemjump will be fully documented on camera from the moment you will walk to the airplane, the exit, the free fall and eventually till you are landed safely back on the ground.

The only moment where the camera will no follow you, is while you are hanging under the deployed parachute.
20 minutes after your jump you will receive your photos and video fully edited on one of our Paracentrum Texel USB-Sticks. You can immediately check out the results in out "Blokhut" on a big screen or re-live the experience later at home.

Obviously, you may share the photos and the video via YouTube, Facebook, Instagramm, etc. - It is your content, so feel free to share and maybe tag us?

If you are interested in seeing how the job of a camarajumper at Paracentrum Texel looks like, this video will show a camarajump together with a tandammaster.

Check out an example of a standard photo and video package by clicking the buttons below.

The digital photos (usually around 50) you also can find on your UBS-Stick. These are made with an extra high-resolution camera (hence they are not just screenshots of your video).

Courses: general

The AFF-course (Accelerated Free Fall) is the most common teaching method to learn how to jump fully independent out of an airplane. This includes the free fall, as well as the knowledge how to handle the parachute and the landings. If you successfully finished this course you may jump independently (solo) as a sports-parachutist.

The FJC (First JumpC ourse) is an amazing opportunity to get a taste of Skydiving. In this course you will be busy with learning how to handle the parachute. After one day ground instructions, you will be jumping out of the airplane with a static line attached to the airplane. Hence, you will not feel the free fall yet,but know how to fly under a parachute. After 5 static line jumps you will have earned your static line brevet (and also your Wing).

The TJE (TotalJumpExperience) is your chance to learn how to fly under the parachute, by doing one day ground instructions and 5 static line jumps, followed by a first AFF jump, in which you will experience the free fall. This means after this course you only need another 6 AFF jumps to be an independent (solo) parachutist.

On the first day of your course you will need:

  • Your medical examniation paper *
  • Two passport photos
  • If applicable: your voucher
  • If applicable: your payment confirmation
  • Casual/ sporty clothing
  • Solid shoes (without open heels or high-heels)
  • Enough water & sunscreen

* The medical examination needs to be signed by a doctor, with his stemp and his BIG number.

Download Medical Examination Paper

Well begun is half done:

  • Make sure you are on time fir the registration. The courses start at 9am. Depending on your travel distance, it might be good to arrive a day earlier, since you also need to take the times of the ferry into account. This way you will be fit and well rested on your first day of the course.
  • Wear solid shoes!

Not sure whether jumping out of an airplane is the right thing for you?

Try a tandemjump with us, you will make the first experience of the exit out of an airplane, the free fall, steering a parachute and landing back on earth. Most of our course participant have been infected with the stoke for parachuting after a tandemjump!

Yes. Without a medical examination you are not allowed to participate in any of the jump courses we offer (e.g. AFF, FJC, TJE).

The medical examination can be done by any general practitioner and usually does not take any longer than 5 minutes.

Attention: The medical examination is only valid if stemped and signed by the general practitioner.

Sportjumpers who have not finished their A-Licence need to refresh/ renew their medication examination every two years.

Download Medical Examination Paper

The minimum age for sport jumpers is 16, which means that also participants may not be younger then 16. Nonetheless, till your 18th birthday you need the written allowance of your parents or legal guardian to participate in a jumping course.

Parachuting is a very age-diverse sport. Many jumpers keep jumping till age 60, 70 or 80.

However, to start jumping out of an airplane is different then being experienced and continuing throughout his/ her life. The most important fact is your physicalhealth. Hence, please inform us if you are older than 50 years. We will then talk with you and see what options we can offer, especially since safety of all our participants is the most important to us!

If you cannot finish your course in one go (e.g. because of bad weather conditions), then you have the chance to finish it within one year.

However, play attention to the following rules:

  • A harness-test is valid for 3 months. If you do not have a valid harness-test anymore you need to do a new harness-test. (This is the case for all sportjumpers who do not have a finished B-License.
  • The ground-course is valid for 6 months. Hence, if you have not jumped within these 6 months, you need to participate again in ground-instructions.
  • In order to participate in a Dutch jumpcourse you need to be insured via the Dutch jumpers association (KNVvL). This insurance is valid for 1 years and needs to be possibly re-freshed if you finish your course much later in time.

These rules are applicable to all our courses offered.

An important fact that is also good to know: Paracentrum Texel is daily open from April till October!

When you book your course you'll automatically be signed up as a trial member at the Dutch National Parachuting association (KNVvL). Parachute jumping activities insurance is included for all members. The insurance policy is valid for a year.

AFF (Accelerated Free Fall)

Indoor Skydive Roosendaal City Skydive Utrecht

FJC (First Jump Course)

TJE (Total Jump Experience)

Yes, that's exactly it. The staticline jumps only deal with the portion that has to do with flying the parachute as the parachute opens automatically when you exit the airplane.

By choosing for either an AFF jump or a Tandem jump you get to experience a jump with a freefall component.

  • AFF 1 jump:
You get to do a solo skydive with 2 instructors where you'll experience 60 seconds of freefall until you open the parachute. From that moment on you'll be on familiar territory as you already know how to fly and land your parachute.
  • Tandemjump:
You get to do a tandemjump from 9000ft where the instructor will do all the work. All you have to do is enjoy the jump.

In a windtunnel you learn how to move your body in freefall. So if you plan to do the AFF jump after completing the 5 StaticLine jumps this could be beneficial. Indoor skydiving in a windtunnel is something that's a great experience in any case.

The weather is really the determining factor here. Students need ideal wind/ weather conditions for their jumps. If the weather is ideal you can expect to be finished in about 4 days. But please plan for as much as 7 to provide a few backup days in case the weather isn't good enough for you to jump.

Yes you can! On the days that you'll be jumping you don't have to spend the entire day at the dropzone. There's plenty of time to enjoy Texel and all that the Island has to offer.

Sometimes people can't do all the jumps in the course. For instance if they have to leave before the weather turns for the better. In that case you can return on a weekday to do a Static Line jump -during the summer months-. Please contact us if you want to come back to do a jump.

If you haven't jumped in two months or more you'll have to complete groundschool again to be legal to jump. So don't wait to long if you still have one or more jumps to do.

MSQ (Military Static Line)
